Digital-publishing

How Digital Publishing Works

What is simply Digital Publishing?

You may have wondered.

Simply put Digital Publishing is the production and distribution of traditionally printed material such as:

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Catalogs etc.

In an electronic form. These electronic documents are commonly referred to or called as ebooks and they can be produced in many popular formats like:

  • ePub,
  • PDF,
  • HTML, or an
  • e-book application.

Even blogs and websites are mostly considered as a form of digital publishing, and because of that we can often hear the saying:

“Every company is a media company nowadays”.

Because instead of companies reaching, informing and searching for its customers as before, on the internet customers primarily look for great companies themselves, to satisfy their needs and cravings through desired products and services. That’s why top-class publications and content are of huge importance and value.

To get a sense of what Digital Publishing really is let’s look at its evolution up to now.

Project Gutenberg (1971) is usually everyone’s first idea into the world of e-books. Founded by Michael Hart it’s considered to be the first digital publication when he digitized the Declaration of Independence. Since Project Gutenberg, similar e-book libraries have been established but this project will forever be known as the original digital publishing library.

The first mover, the champ.

In the 1990s, the personal computer or home computer became more of a reality for a lot of people, so the CD-ROM drive was commonplace in many of these homes and was part of their personal computers. That’s when, as a smart business move, encyclopedias and some magazine publishers began producing their titles on CDs. In addition, some textbooks came with bonus presentations and other supplemental content on their CDs. And then in 1993, introduced by Adobe Corporation, the Portable Document Format or PDF was developed to convert documents to a more universal format.

So the term “Paperless Office” was born. It was a boy/girl.

Around the 1990s the World Wide Web became available for the home user and almost every company incorporated their business or some part of it, on the internet. It’s also during this time that Amazon starts to sell printed books online.

Afterward, similar circumstances unfold:

  • In 2004, Sony introduced the first e-book device
  • In 2004 too, Google announced its plan to digitize books and offer them online
  • The Sony Reader – Sony’s second attempt with an e-reader device, years later
  • In 2007, Amazon released the Kindle which sells out immediately
  • In 2007 Apple release iPhone, which made the possibility for a pocket computer even though it was too small at that time for reading extensively
  • In 2010, Steve Jobs announced the iPad changing the digital publishing world forever. The larger screen made it practical for reading e-books. It was an epiphany for the Digital Publishing world.

Digital Publishing may be new to you, but it has a history of 40 years behind it. However you define it, it’s certainly one of the leading markets of today and it’s shaping our future. Millions of e-book capable devices are in the world and even more, are being sold every day. The push is to fill those devices with amazing content.

And that’s what digital publishing is all about.

“But Simon that’s not how it works, you are telling me history here,” you may think. Don’t worry friend, I got you covered.

At The Books Factory, this process works like a simple machine.

You come with an idea. You may know to write by yourself, but even if you don’t we help you out. Through valuable guidance throughout the whole book process (which by the way we call it “Done For You” publishing), we release and promote your book on its way becoming a bestseller.

Benefits of Being a Author

Advantages of being a Writer

“Once upon a time, there was a prostitute called Maria.

Wait a minute. ‘Once upon a time’ is how all the best children’s stories begin and ‘prostitute’ is a word for adults. How can I start a book with this apparent contradiction?”

That’s how Paulo Coelho’s book “Eleven minutes” begins.

And we can’t argue, being an author is COOL.

And not only that…

This excerpt is the beginning paragraph taken from the famous Coelho’s bestseller – Eleven Minutes. It shows a creativity an author can foretake to make his idea stick, into readers minds. Make them love his product, remember the author, and spontaneously building the credibility of expertise in our minds. Just as this book did with me – I still remember Eleven Minutes, and its infamous beginning even though I’ve read it more than ten years ago. Unlike hundreds of other read books that didn’t leave me with significant emotion feeling wonderful, nor a pleasant thing that could make them stick into my memories.

Relax, we can learn this too.

Fasten your seatbelt we’re ready to launch!

Even though authoring a book and be on the niche is a big investment in time, effort, and money, in the end, it has a lot of benefits. With the writing, editing, proofreading, design and production work required to publish a book, it can take years before it’s done, and if you can’t write yourself, hiring ghostwriter may cost you a car. The struggle pays off!

Becoming an author is worth it, even when it takes years and costs thousands!

Because writing a book is such a big project, people often dream about doing it but don’t actually get it done because they get stuck along the way. We strive to change that and that’s why at The Books Factory we love to offer any help necessary.

Fun facts:

  • 96% said having a book positively influenced their business;
  • 96% generated more clients;
  • 94% generated more leads;
  • 87% attracted a more desirable client base;

These statistics are from a few years ago, but they’re still pretty fantastic!

1)Spread the word

Writing a book is one of the best ways to share your story and experience with the world. It allows you to reach audiences unlimited by geographic and economic status. There are other ways to do this too, but a book has more tremendous value because it’s an object and extension of oneself.

2)Help Others

Your skills and expertise may seem familiar and usual with yourself since you’re accommodated with them but to others, they may be like a treasury. That’s why it’s a good thing to share them in a book, and help others along the way. Becoming an author allows you to reach and help far more people than you could reach in real person.

3)Become an Expert

You may have heard the saying “your goals aren’t goals until you write them down on paper”. It’s similar to books. Even if you know what you are talking about until you’ve written about it, it’s harder for other people to understand you properly. So just the process of writing a book adds to your expertise a lot!

Becoming an author let others know you’re the expert!

4)Passive Income from Royalties

If we see book writing from the lengths of your income strategy, a book is something you write once and can make money from as long as you keep it in print. Of course, books don’t sell if you don’t market and promote them.

Don’t worry, we can help you with that At The Books Factory.

5)Get Publicity and Media Attention

Getting media attention may be a difficult task, whether is just for trying to share your story or try to get your business mentioned somewhere. A book is like a lead magnet, and a decent benefit of you being an Author.

Journalists are always looking for experts to interview, and that’s your chance to be reviewed in newspapers and magazines too. Any invitations for a radio or television show? With a book, you’ll have for sure!

6)Unexpected Opportunities

Perhaps the best benefit of becoming an author, according to us at The Books Factory! When you become an author, you’ll never know who will read it and what opportunities and coincidences it may unfold. You could be delivering the next TED Talk or even more.

Become an Author, and get the tons of advantages now!

How to publish a book

How To Publish A Book

How to publish a book

It’s not 3000 BC.

Flatten and smack the stack of the papyrus plant, add your effort on top of that.

Your smooth & flexible, writing material is born. Accepts and retains ink even without a blur or smudge. Now, revolutionize the literary world.

Wait, WHAT?

We’re not in Ancient Egypt.

Step in this portal (O), to get back in this timeline. Whip!

This was the way people used to craft the ancient papyrus paper, which was the method on how to write and publish your books. Successfully, the process never stopped evolving.

“The development of writing has been a long process that underwent a lot of experimentation and cycles of new methods replacing the old. Different materials dominated distinct regions and eras, and clay was used heavily in the river plains of Mesopotamia. That’s where it is believed writing books was born. Then papyrus dominated the history of written documents”.
